    Description

    c. 1900, A. Schrader sponge diving helmet.  Beautiful patina, and characteristics of a helmet used years ago, to dive for sponges in Tarpon Springs, Florida.  Heavy brass and copper made.  Weighs approximately 33lbs.  Approximate dimensions 18"H x 15 3/4"W x 15"Deep, front to back.  12-bolt.  Front screw in port, modified for appearance, (see last two photos). Non-recessed neck ring.  Modified cardboard neck ring, should be leather, easy to replace, (see photo 10). Missing name plate on front of breast plate, (see photos 7&8).  On both sides of the breast plate there are very small worn holes, from the rope rubbing against the copper.  This rope held the heavy chest weights.  The holes are not obvious, (examples shown in photo 9).  Overall, in very good solid condition.  Perfect look for vintage nautical decor, or a great piece to add to your collection.  12 photos are a part of this description.
