Wonderful Characteristic of "Tenugui", Japanese hand towel
- Let's go walking with tenugui! -
Tenugui is a type of traditional Japanese hand towel.
“Te” means “hand”, and “nugui” means “wipe”.
They are commonly used as a hand towel.
It has the unfinished edges. (see photos no.5, 6 and 7)
This is a big characteristic of tenugui.
It is not that someone forgot to sew it.
The reason why the edges of tenugui are not sewn is because it is
hygienic
.
It dries faster and germs do not accumulate.
Moreover, it's thin and not bulky.
They are much thinner than towels.
It is the same size as a face towel when spread out, but it is greatly compact when folded.
That's why it's perfect for travel, outdoor activities and sports.
Because the edges have not been sewn, you can cut it to your favorite size.
It can also be cut in half to make mini towels.
Being easy to cut, tenugui is useful for the treatment of sudden injuries.
HOW TO CARE and
RAISE
TENUGUI:
We sometimes say, "you can raise a tenugui".
That's because the more you use a tenugui, the more the tenugui gets used to your life.
Tenugui towels are easy to use for everyone.
There are no fixed rules for using.
But I think it's easier to "raise" them if you know how to care them.
When you wash a Tenugui for the first time, its color slightly fades.
I recommend you wash the tenugui separately from white ones.
Hot water affects tenugui color more, so it is safer to wash it with water.
Tenugui are weak against strong direct sunlight and fade quickly, so please dry them in the shade as much as possible.
When you don't use it for a long time, you put it in the closet or whatnot after washing it with water.
By doing so, it will prevent the fabric from being damaged by long-term storage.
This tenugui was made by a traditional dyeing
technique, CHUSEN.
CHUSEN
