This is a very rare early publicity photo of champion bantam weight boxer
Packey O'Gatty
(1900-1966, active 1915-1928). The photo is undated, but it appears that O'Gatty is still in his teens.
The photo is
signed
by him on the reverse, with a brief inscription to a friend. Early signed items by this athlete are extreme rarities.
Also included are two formal portraits of an even younger Packey, perhaps about 12 years old. The youth is posing in a photographer's studio with his father.
The signed photograph has some wear about the edges, including some creasing and small chips missing from two corners of the white border; the image is still very good. The two other portraits show minor age and handling.
The autographed photo measures 3-3/8" X 4-7/8"; the others are 4"X 6".
